The War Effort has a short history. It all started in 1996. Rob and Scott were introduced, in High School, by Ryan V. [the drummer of the Suicide Machines]... Scott recently moved from Dayton, OH; and Rob instantly befriended him. During that time they experimented with Scott´s 4 Track, coming up with band names like: Trunk Explosion and Lesbian Uno Night. In the summer of 1997, Scott, Ryan Cady [of Sideburn Rubber], and Terry Peake [Nipon], started a band called Apple-PoP. They wanted a backup guitar player and MOOG player: ALL being good friends with Rob, they asked him to join. In the Meantime: Scott and jack were in a local Ska/Noize/PoP band called FAT ASS JOE. Joe was in a Local indie rock band called HATCHBACK. Hatchback opened for bands like: Apples in Stereo, The Van Pelt, and many more.. Rob was teaching himself the music business and learning everything he could about the science of audio and music. Just before Scott Graduated, he released his solo tape on Side Burn Rubber [which actually had War Effort songs like RIGHTLANE MUST TURN RIGHT]... Rob eventually introduced Joe and Scott together. They hit it off and Scott asked joe to play backup guitar in His and Jakes band: THE SCOTT LOWRY BAND. After a few songs were written, the three decided it was time for a bass player, and once again asked Rob to join. Obviously he accepted: THE WAR EFFORT was born. Their first show was on August 8th, 1998 / @ The Shelter / with TUSCADERO and Fletch Pratt. Since then they´ve played steadly about every 2 weeks. Starting out as a folk band with spacey guitar FX, they got tired of seeing fans standing still. Not wanting to be like any other band: They came up with SPACE-POP one late night. SPACE-POP was born with:
Scott´s Melodic Guitar riffs Joe´s Driving Guitar, and Accoustic Feedback Rob´s "Pixies Influenced" Bass scales. Jake´s Jazzy/Dancey Drumming
Let´s hope they stick it out and actually make it! Because I have full faith in the Space-PoP genre being accepted publicly! -Adam T. [WSBF RADIO] |
