The password feature is not encryption, so all the data is there. The
question is whether the password is stored in flash or a utility area
of the platter. If the former, an identical logic board swapped out
should work for data recovery. If the latter, it probably wont. AFAIK
there is no public backdoor or reset mechanisms for HD level
passwords, so you may be SOL.
