No, it wouldn't. In fact, it leaves you a 100ma margin of error. You could have a 3A adapter and it would be fine, it is just how many amps you can pull from the adapter without burning out the device. If the device takes 500ma, you can run it with a million amp transformer (ha!) or a 700ma transformer, but not a 400ma or a 100ma.
