RE: [pen] geek question re leatherman
I like my Leatherman Crunch over other multitools I'd seen.
pros:
locking vice grip lets you put a metric shitload of pressure upon a
surface and keep it there. useful as an impromptu handle on anything or
for cutting hard wire as well. with the other designs or gerbers, you've
got to continually squeeze.
design is complex enough to confuse people casually toying with it.
you can slot a .25" screwdriver bit directly into the end if need be, in
addition to the phillips/flathead built in.
integrated wire stripper.
cons:
one knife included, not 2+ like others. mildly serrated blade which is
good enough for most purposes (which is how I view the leatherman - good
enough in a pinch, but have real tools handy if possible)
design is complicated enough to confuse people unfamiliar with it.
getting the unit into wrench/pliers mode takes a few seconds.
snubnose, not needlenose, pliers. OTOH, this adds to its capability to
provide massive amounts of pressure.
anyways, I feel naked without mine. damn airline security.
